Seventh Edition To Open Thursday, September 18th;
Festival Runs Through through Sunday, September 21st.
2014 marks the Seventh Anniversary for Cinema Diverse: The Palm Springs Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and the lineup is larger and broader than ever. For repeat fans, the annual celebration of LGBT cinema is an opportunity to view stories that reconnect us to the LGTB community, perhaps challenge some of our own entrenched thinking, and open us up to the universal themes that make us all human. For newcomers to Cinema Diverse, its a chance to laugh, cry, and experience love, comedy, drama, mystery, and even a thriller, through the lenses of gay filmmakers and their characters.
Cinema Diverse’s audience both within and beyond the LGTB community grows each year, with attendees attracted by the quality of the films and the talent of the filmmakers, with an increasing awareness that all of us face similar struggles, and have far more in common than not. Perhaps due to the expanded offerings, or the earlier arrival of ‘shoulder season,’ the demand for tickets is also growing. According to Michael C. Green, Cinema Diverse Festival Director and Managing Director of The Palm Springs Cultural Center. “We are seeing higher volume of early ticket sales than in years past, which is exciting, and not surprising given the caliber and breadth of offerings this year.”
As many locals will attest, the season in Palm Springs feels as if it’s starting earlier this year, and for Cinema Diverse fans, that means advance ticket purchases are more important than ever . . . particularly for the headliner features.
