REVRY Makes Big Splash At Palm Springs' Cinema Diverse
With Two World Premieres
Cinema Diverse will celebrate its 10th anniversary as the LGBTQ Palm Springs Film Festival with a new segment entitled, "WebOUT."
Arts blogger Kevin M. Thomas, @ReelKev, has been contributing to the festival for the past several years after becoming a fan, and calling it the Gay Academy Awards as it screens the best LGBTQ movie and multimedia content and manages to showcase it in just a three day period.
Cinema Diverse has asked Thomas to put together two segments on web series, having seen his love and knowledge of the medium on his own YouTube web series "The ReelKev Show." Thomas had spent the past year watching numerous series and narrowing down his selections. When he discovered REVRY (watch.revry.tv), his process and choices became easier.
REVRY, queerated entertainment, has exploded on the scene this year as a top streaming device that features only LGBTQ content. Whether it's movies, web series, short films or podcasts, REVRY streams together everything that a savvy blogger like Thomas (and anyone who demands diversity in their diversity) would enjoy.
From the REVRY streaming device, Thomas has managed to find almost half of his favorite web series to present at each of his two hour Cinema Diverse programs.
On Saturday, Sept. 23, Thomas' WebOUT segment is subtitled "Daddies, bears, husbands and icons...oh my!" REVRY shows include "Gay of Thrones," a riotous production, in connection with Funny or Die, with Jonathan van Ness and a weekly guest star re-cap an episode of "Game of Thrones." While van Ness does their hair, he and his clients poke fun at the show while pointing out physical similarities between characters and real stars and public figures like Christina Aguilera and Barack Obama.
"The Chadwick Journals" is also featured and is a somewhat continuation of the popular "The DL Chronicles," in which journalist Chadwick Williams interviews men on the DL to see what makes them tick. Sometimes sexy, sometimes informative, "Chadwick" is an anthology series that always has interesting stories about the obstacles men of color face.
Saturday's segment ends with the world premiere of the original REVRY series, "The Gay Husbands of San Francisco," a spoof of those table-flipping back-stabbing housewives shows from the creative mind of "The Advocate" writer Adam Sandel and starring some of San Francisco's biggest and brightest talent, many of whom will be on hand for the screening.
The WebOUT segment for Sunday, Sept. 24 is loaded with REVRY titles which focuses on LBT shows mixed in with some musicals. "Dyke Central" offers a slice of life among Oakland lesbians and their friends while "Her Story" and "Brothers" are wonderful trans series that shows comaradery, prejudice and acceptance. "Coffee House Chronicles" runs the gamut of LGBT topics and the featured episode in WebOUT is a definite standout. Gay youth and coming out stories are showcased in "The Throwaways" and set to music with high school "The Hinterlands."
REVRY is also happy to debut another world premiere at WebOUT with the riotous comedy "Persianality," the brain child of Matthew Mouriel, who will be at the screening in character as Khanoom Fereshteh Shoorkhakianian. REVRY is proud to make a strong presence at Cinema Diverse and will also be on hand to do some panel discussions with REVRY CEO Damian Pelliccione.
Cinema Diverse's Palm Springs program will take place Sept. 21-24. There will be an encore the following weekend in Cathedral City and both WebOUT segments will screen on Saturday, Sept. 30.
